Clark County Fair means fun for allBY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, September 14, 2005 in the Gurdon Times It is time to put the family in the car and take a little extra money for gas for a pleasure trip to the Clark County Fair. The fair's opening act, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, will be old time gospel with Don Clark of Arkadelphia. Gracie Leamons said, "If you are reading this early, on Tuesday, Sept. 13, fair officials say not to miss the Clark act. "If you are reading this article on Wednesday, Sept. 14, remember the fair parade at 5 p.m. in downtown Arkadelphia." The 2005 county fair theme is "Clark County's Celebrated Past," with this years big events at the fairgrounds happening through Saturday. Leamons said Elaine Cox is this year's fair board president. She can be reached at the fair office: (870) 246-2281. Leamons said First State Bank of Gurdon and the US Bank will once again sell the advanced armbands. She said the cost of an armband, to get discount rides on the fair midway, has been set at $8. Advanced reduced price armbands must be bought before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13 (so hurry if you are reading this on Tuesday). After this date, armbands may be purchased at a higher price from the carnival. Armbands are good for only one night at the carnival. The gospel singers will start Tuesday evening, as the fair livestock is being brought in for registration. The singing will be on stage in the Clark County Fair Commercial Building. She said the gospel performance is free to the public, but parking to get into the fair is $3 a carload. "Considering you can have an unlimited number of people in the car, this is not too bad," she said.
