Teen with alcohol could lose licenseBY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, August 31, 2005 in the Gurdon Times As of Aug. 13, any minor caught in possession of alcohol in Arkansas will have his or her driver's license suspended. Gurdon City Marshal Don Childres, said this law should discourage teenage drinking to a point. "We will enforce this law and it may help," he said. "However, there are many young people who will drink no matter what you do." Arkansas Act 1535 of 2005 requires administrative suspension of driver's license for the offense of "Minor in Possession of Alcohol." The law stipulates if the arrested person is under age 18, there is a designated place, under the signature of the arrested person, for the parent or guardian's signature, which will be required. In other police business, Officer James Smithpeters reported an incident of car vandalism on Aug. 21. Oscar Loarca, 33, of 110 North 8th Street, said someone spray painted his Nissan Sentra, damaged the front bumper with a dent and hit and shattered the windshield. Nothing was reported missing from the car. The incident carries a charge of criminal mischief, first degree, with damages more than $500, and therefore a felony.
