Races contested in school electionsBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, August 17, 2005 in the Nevada County Picayune This years school elections will be different in Nevada County. There are no seats being contested in the Nevada School District, where two seats are coming open, Emmet will no longer be considered in the county elections as it is part of the Blevins School District and considered a Hempstead County School. However, two of the three seats coming open in Prescott are contested. Ordinarily its difficult to find people to run for the school board, but there is more interest this year. Sandra Evans-Tatum is running in Zone 2, a seat vacated by the illness of George Odom, who remains in a nursing home. In Zone 3, Jeff Haynes, incumbent, is being challenged by Jo Beth Glass. There are three candidates in Zone 3, starting with incumbent Kay Hendrix, the current president of the Prescott School Board. She is being challenged by Shane Meadors and Bobby Pilgreen. The polling places for this election, according to the Nevada County Clerks Office, will be the high school lobby at PHS and the lobby at Nevada. The election will take place Tuesday, Sept. 20.
