Plans for the 69th Annual Nevada County Fair are, for the most part, complete.

The Nevada County Fair Board met Monday, Aug. 8, to discuss what needs to be done. Carol Tyree said Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, has forms for a grant the Board can apply for to help with repairs, maintenance or new construction.

According to Tyree, the amount of the grant is $4,000, but it is a 50-50 matching grant, which means the Board would have to come up with either $4,000 or the equivalent in labor. We can try to get the city attorney to help us fill them out, she said.

Tyree told the Board the premium money is in and she is working on insurance for the fair. She pointed out there are mistakes in the fair book, and these will have to be overlooked. One of the mistakes is that there will be a watermelon and ice cream supper the Friday night of the Fair. This, she said, is not going to happen.

Check-in time for the animals, Rebecca Holley said, will be from 3:30-6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29. For farm-raised chickens, the check-in will be at the old Ford place around 4 p.m. This, she said, is to keep the farm-raised birds separate from the 4-H poultry.

Tyree said the talent show is on schedule for Tuesday night, but she hasnt heard anything from Brandi Karolvec, event chairman, yet. I dont know if weve had any entries.

The talent show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the Potlatch Building.

According to Holley, the parade floats will again be judged at the Central Baptist Church parking lot prior to the parade itself. All entries need to be at the church by 5 p.m.

In addition, she said, Sandy Helms and her sisters will handle the gospel singing on Sunday, Aug. 28.

The livestock show is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with this also being the rain date for the parade. Well have a good show this year, Holley said. The livestock premium show and sale will be Thursday, starting at 5:30 as well. This is also the first night of the pageants, with the younger age groups taking center stage at the Potlatch Building.

With football season starting Friday, Sept. 2, no activities are on tap for the fair, with the possible exception of a mechanical bull ride. Holley said the man who has the bull has talked about being here the Friday and Saturday night of the fair. He will also try to be here with his equipment when the carnival shows up so he, too, can be inspected.

There will be a high school rodeo to kick things off, Saturday, Aug. 27, at the rodeo arena. The Board will take care of the concession stand, while the rodeo company will handle everything else and pay the Board $100 for the use of a tractor.

There was an interesting call for space at the fair, Holley said. Someone, who didnt leave their name, wanted a 20x20 space for a tent and an electric hookup for an RV. However, she added, they didnt say what they would be selling, though Holley asked three times.

They will not be at the fair.

Rex Dollar said the ribbons, buckles and trophies have been ordered and judges for the different events contacted.
