Computer proposal made to CourtBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, August 17, 2005 in the Nevada County Picayune A proposal was made to handle all the computers for Nevada County. At the regular meeting of the Nevada County Quorum Court, Monday, Aug. 8, Jon Anderson presented his qualifications and proposal to be the network administrator for the countys computers. Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown said Anderson has done computer work for the courthouse before and wants to work on all of the countys computers. The proposal, he added, included the computers for the courthouse and Nevada County Sheriffs Office. Anderson said the proposal covers the computer network. You have a growing network and the computers need to be advanced. Most counties have a network administrator and staff. The proposal would include improving the security of the countys system. As it is, Anderson said, if anyone gets into the system, they can access almost any information the county has. He pointed out he has looked elsewhere for full-time employment in this field and has a standing offer of $50,000 elsewhere. Anderson said his bottom-line price for the county would be $40,000 a year. The Court discussed the matter, asking if this would also include the citys computer equipment and the Nevada County Library. Anderson said it would. The Prescott City Council, though, would have to approve hiring Anderson as the network administrator and fund a portion of the position. Anderson said he has 12 certifications and eight years experience in the field. He has an associates degree in CYSCO management from Texarkana Community College, two certifications in computer repair and networking, eight certifications from Microsoft and two from CYSCO and another in IP telephones, something not offered around here. I have the highest accreditation from Microsoft and would like to go on as an employee, split between the county and city. Justice of the Peace Willie Wilson said it would be hard to justify a full-time net administrator for the county alone and the Court would have to look at adding the city and library. Anderson said there would be no problem with this, but he hasnt spoken with city officials yet. According to Anderson, the countys computers need to be subnetted, which will increase the performance of the entire network. It would also separate the computers for security reasons. Brown told Anderson to go before the City Council with the proposal and bring his resume back to the Court. If the Council agrees, he said, a special quorum court meeting could be called, but the Court would have to come up with the money. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
