NEVADA 6
Published Wednesday, March 24, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayunePRESCOTT 5 It took three times before Nevada was able to post a win over Prescott, but the third time was the charm and the Jays won 6-5. Jarrod Miller doubled for Prescott in the top of the first, but was thrown out at third after trying to advance on a wild pitch. This proved to be a big out as Yates smacked his fifth homer of the year as the next batter. This gave Prescott a 1-0 lead. Nevada tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the frame after an error and single. Nevada went up 2-1 in the bottom of the third after yet another error allowed a runner to reach base safely. This was followed by a ground out and another error for the score. The Wolves took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. Doug Young led off with his first homer of the year. Brad Harris and Angelo Haynes followed with back-to-back singles. The next two batters went down on strikes, but the catcher failed to handle the third strike on the second batter. The throw to first allowed Harris to score. Nevada added three to its tally in the bottom of the frame. The runs came on two singles a walk and an error. The Wolves rallied in the top of the seventh to tie the score with a pair of runs. Two walks and an error loaded the bases with one down. Young tied the game with a two-RBI single, but this was all the Wolves had offensively. Nevada needed but one to win the game in the bottom of the frame and one is what the team got. With two down and the bases empty, Herring reached on an error. Jarvis was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, with Murphy's hot shot not being handled bringing Herring in with the winning run. Yates took the loss, though he allowed only four hits and three walks, while striking six Jays out. The Wolves outhit Nevada 7-4, but committed six errors in the game, accounting for the loss.
