Viola PhilipsPublished Wednesday, August 3, 2005 in the Gurdon TimesMrs. Viola Horne Phillips, 92, of Prescott, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2005, in Hillcrest Care and Rehab in Prescott. She was born on September 22, 1912, in Whelen Springs, to Jessie and Alpha Jane Stone Horne. She was a retired licensed practical nurse for Dr. Hairston's office and the Nevada County Hospital. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Prescott where she taught a women's Sunday school class and sang in the choir. She was a member of Prescott Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Phillips, who died in 1971 and by four brothers, Curry, Hillard, Neal and Ardell Horne. Her survivors include one daughter, Margaret (Charley) Hritz of North Carolina; one son, Jim (Rebecca) Phillips of Arkadelphia; four grandchildren, Christy Burnside of Centreville, Va., Todd Phillips of Karlsruhe, Germany, Eric Phillips of Arkadelphia and Clif Phillips of Hope; and five great-grandsons. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott. Burial was in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott. Visitation was Monday, August 1, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish in Prescott.
