Court looks to sell hospital equipmentBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, July 20, 2005 in the Nevada County Picayune A Guatemalan hospital may be interested in purchasing equipment from the Nevada County Hospital. Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown told the Nevada County Quorum Court, at its July meeting, he knows of no one else interested. Wed have to have an auction and advertise it for bid, he said. According to Brown, Floyd Clark, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, know a broker who could try and sell the hospital equipment. The equipment, he said, will be sold in one lot, not separately and the buyer will be given time to remove it from the hospital. However, the fixtures, such as sinks, commodes and items attached, will not be included in the sale. Clark has been in touch with the Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District and people from Little Rock, Brown said, trying to get money to clean the asbestos from the old hospital building. Supposedly money is available. Tests show if the asbestos isnt disturbed its no problem, but if we tear it down or sell it, it will be disturbed. Clark, during his report to the Court, said a prospect is interested in locating in Prescott, but needs a 50,000 square foot building. The prospect would be operating a warehouse, but this could turn into a distribution center later on. They would like for us to build a warehouse and are willing to sign a long-term lease, Clark said. The facility wouldnt have to be climate controlled, just be big enough for storage. The prospect, he said, has three clients who would sublet space and use the warehouse to ship materials and product from. The materials shipped would include machine parts, machine oils and paper goods and ink. The transportation company is interested in getting into distribution. They would need to hire some people. Clark informed the Court the sidewalk crew came to town to repair its mistakes, but couldnt do anything because it rained. In discussing the housing restoration program, Clark said he has talked to the people involved and been told the applicants are in a paper shuffle, with the applications being sent from one place to another for approval or denial.
