A fund raiser by the Gurdon Rotary Club for the Senior Adult Center will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18, at the center, when Rotarians "roast Anita Cabe."

Tambra Childres, Rotarian, is in charge of the roasting effort. She said Thursday tickets are $10 and available through Linda Bittle at the First State Bank and also at US Bank.

Childres, the city recorder and treasurer, said City Council will be postponed until 7 p.m. on Monday, July 25, to accommodate those wanting to attend the roasting.

On July 18, Mayor Clayton Franklin will do the welcome. The theme of the event will be a "Summer Time Picnic and Roast." Dress will be casual.

"The reason for this meal and the roasting of Anita is to raise money for the seniors," Childres said. "The Hamburger Barn out of Arkadelphia will cater the event, providing hamburgers and all of the fixin's. But the $10 ticket purchase won't really give us much profit for the senior center.

"So we will have a wash-tub donation. If you can spare it, give to the wash tub. This project is sponsored by the Rotary but we are not the ones getting the money. It will all go to the Gurdon Senior Adult Center, one of the most valuable assets we have here."

Childres said 100 tickets are on sale, as that is the estimated seating of the center.

"If we can fit in a few more, good," she said. "But folks need to get their tickets early because seating will be limited."

Drinks will include ice tea or lemonade. Childres said it is a country theme and a tight budget "because we need to make all we can for our senior adult center."

Childres listed the following agitators, fully prepared to roast Anita Cabe: Ann Clingan, Bobby Smithson, Alan Wimberly, Jackie Garland, Annette D'Arcy, Winnie Clark and Charles Dunn.

"We would like to invite all of the local politicians for Clark County, the state and surrounding cities," she said. "We will have to fill our washtub with donations to make this work. We decided to go with a fairly low price on the meal ticket situation to get more people involved. But this is a chance to donate more and show how much you care about our senior citizen population having some place positive to go, make friends, share a meal and hang out with others their own age."

Those with questions may call Childres at: 353-2514 or Bittle at: 353-2521.
