Summer paving starts soonBY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, June 15, 2005 in the Gurdon Times Equipment was to arrive Monday for the paving of at least 15 more Gurdon streets this summer. Mayor Clayton Franklin said Statewide Asphalt Paving Company, of Hot Springs, got the low bid and the contract to sell Gurdon 5,000 tons of asphalt at $55.15 per ton. "We will do as many streets as that will do, with a two-inch overlay," Franklin said. "This means starting with the 15 streets that were picked in a Plan B. There will be more than enough to do those streets, and the walking trail." According to Franklin, the 15 streets to be paved this summer include: South First Street, West South Street, Charlotte Drive, Martha Lane, Turtle Creek, Martha Court, Beech Street, East Joslyn, Clark Street, Old Whelen Road, Carrie Street Loop, Cherry Street, North Front Street, Calley Road and North First Street. Franklin said there is 21,000 feet of street to be paved in the 15-street schedule. "I believe they may be through as quickly as the end of June," Franklin said. "Some of our streets are 12 feet wide and some 14 feet." Jim Caldwell, street superintendent, said Thursday the street department workers have been doing preliminary work for the anticipated paving. They were working Wednesday, June 8, on Turtle Creek. "We will be getting under way in a serious manner this week," Caldwell said. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
