Its festival time.

The 18th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Chicken and Egg Festival has arrived.

This years festival will be held Friday and Saturday, June 3-4, at the Prescott City Park. For the most part, the festival will remain unchanged with many of the same events people flock to Prescott to participate in.

However, there will be some changes. First and foremost, the festival is being extended from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, with Randy McKinnon and the Bear Creek Boys performing on the festival state from 5-8 oclock Saturday.

Additionally, the Hamilton-Blakely Senior Adult Center has several activities planned for its visitors Friday morning of the festival.

T-Shirts are still available at the Chamber for $11 each. The shirts are teal and bear this years logo and winning design.

The festival kicks off with the annual Rotary Chicken in the Rough dinner at the pavilion at 5 p.m. Friday, and opens Saturday with the Kiwanis Clubs Ole Time Country Breakfast from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, also in the pavilion. These two events help visitors get stoked up for a busy night and day, while helping two worthwhile organizations. The Lions Club will have its concession stand available for burgers, drinks and snacks throughout the festival. There will also be other food concessions on the grounds.

The annual chicken or egg cooking contest will be held Saturday, June 4, at 10 a.m. at the Nevada County Library. The winner gets a cash prize of $20, with second place getting $15 and third place being awarded $10, with no entry fee. They also get bragging rights for having the best chicken or egg dish for the next year.

Getting away from food, the festival really kicks into high gear with the annual variety show, which starts at 5 oclock Friday and lasts until 9 p.m. Those who come to the show need to bring their own lawn chairs.

And, for the sports enthusiasts out there, dont worry, theres plenty for everyone. The Chicks with Sticks softball tourney will be at McRae Field Saturday, while the Fowl Ball mens tourney will be at Bemis Field.

Friday and Saturday will see the little ones get into the act with co-ed T-ball games on Livingston Field inside the park.

Early risers can either participate in or watch the Chase the Chicken 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. Saturday. This is followed by the Chicken Chasers Kids Run at 9.

Basketball fans will see plenty of three-on-three action in the Calvin Brown-Tyson Memorial tourney. This begins at 5 p.m. Friday, and starts again at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The Serving Something Eggstra Tennis tourney will be on the parks tennis courts Friday and Saturday.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Chamber, said anyone planning to participate in any of the athletic events need to get their entry forms and fees turned in so the brackets can be drawn up.

A horseshoe tourney will be held Saturday at 10 a.m.

Now, for the little ones, there is the chicken and egg poster contest. This is for children in grades one through eight. Winners will be announced Friday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m. The contest is sponsored by the Nevada County Farm Bureau Womens Committee.

The annual balloon lift-off is set for 9:30 Saturday morning, and is followed by everyones favorite the golden egg hunt, at 10. Clues will be given from the festival stage and the person who finds the golden egg takes home a cash prize.

Other events include the jump rope contest, the egg toss, a cackling-crowing contest, Bingo hour and the Little Mr. Rooster and Little Miss Hen Pageant. The pageant will be held at 3 p.m. on the festival stage.

Traditionally, this has been the final event of the festival. However, that has changed this year with the addition of live music from 5-8 p.m. Saturday.

For more information about the festival, or to get entry applications for the contests, call the Chamber at 870-8887-2101.
