Gurdon Primary School graduated 58 kindergartners on Tuesday evening, a smaller class than usual.

Principal Rita Roe said the average kindergarten graduation class these past few years has been between 65 and 70.

"We already have 60 pre-registered for next years kindergarten," she said. "So I expect our numbers to go back up. We had three sections this time, while most years we have four.

"There were some really good kids among the 2005 graduates, but it was just a year for a small class. Still, we expect them to be great seniors of the Class of 2017."

The kindergarten graduation started with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of "America."

The children sang, "Time to Graduate," "Say the Magic Words," and "ABC Blues."

Before the diplomas were presented, Roe encouraged parents to continue working with the graduating kindergartners throughout the summer, in preparation for first grade.

"Parents willingness to work with their children really makes a difference," she said. "You parents are a very important part of your childs future."
