Arts League helping with tour

Published Wednesday, May 18, 2005 in the Nevada County Picayune

Members of the Artesian Arts League agreed to help Peggy Lloyd, curator of the Depot Museum, and act as guides for a garden tour of homes.

The tours will take place on Saturday, May 21, as part of Arkansas Heritage Month, which celebrates gardens this year. Lloyd said the tours will last from 9 a.m. until noon, with four houses to be shown.

However, this will not be a group tour, as individuals can go to whichever homes they choose to visit. There will be two guides at each house to show people around and talk about the gardens. According to Lloyd, seven members of the Rose Garden Club have volunteered to help.

Phil McAdams, league president, said the Table Topper brought in a gross of $907. The organization paid out $517.14, leaving a profit of $389.86. Additionally, he told the Board, three ice chests were purchase at a cost of about $27 each.

McAdams said Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, has asked the league to sponsor something for the upcoming Chicken and Egg Festival. The festival will be June 3-4, with most of the activities inside the citys park.

Judy Duke, a member of the Board, said the chair carts have been ordered, though they havent been paid for yet. The carts will cost about $900 including shipping. These moveable carts will allow the league members to keep the chairs stored and moved easier.

Information about the leagues scholarship was submitted to the counselor at Prescott High School and given to students. However, Duke said, there were no applicants. This means there will be no scholarship recipient this year.

Leadership Nevada County will be doing its Quality of Life class May 26. McAdams will represent the league, giving a 15-minute talk about the leagues history and what its done in the community, including the projects and programs put on.

There was discussion about doing a boxed play this summer, in connection with a mystery dinner theater.

There was talk about having the dinner catered, but, Duke said, the league would have to charge more for tickets if this is done. In the past, league members have prepared the meals for dinner theaters done.

The play would be impromptu with no rehearsal on the part of the actors. In addition, there would be some audience participation, depending on the play performed.

It was decided to address the possibility of having a Chocolate Sunday at the June meeting. Duke said it would take more planning and promotion than the first one had.

Additionally, she said June is the leagues month for its membership drive and when officers will be elected. The meeting will be held Tuesday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall auditorium. All members are encouraged to attend.
