Nevada announces honor gradsPublished Wednesday, May 11, 2005 in the Nevada County PicayuneNevada High School will be presenting 12 graduating seniors with diplomas as honor graduates Thursday, May 19. Commencement ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. in the Nevada gymnasium with State Rep. Joyce Elliott the featured speaker. Timothy Bear, son of Wayne and Edith Bear, is a Highest Honors grad. He was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Gifted and Talented, vice president of the Student Council, district FBLA winner in Economics, Business Math, Business Calculations, Word Processing, the state FBLA winner in Business Math and Economics, named to Whos Who Among High School Students, and the United States Achievement Academy, Voice of Democracy winner for two years, is a senior of distinction, member of the Quiz Bowl, varsity baseball, has earned the Silas Hunt Distinguished Scholarship from the University of Arkansas and the Southern Arkansas University Foundation Scholarship. He plans on majoring in business administration at either UA Fayetteville or SAU in Magnolia. David Williams, son of Don and Donna Williams, is a Highest Honor grad. He was a member of the NHS, FBLA, Quiz Bowl, GT, baseball team, named Student of the Year 2004, named to the National Honor Roll, is a Senior of Distinction, a Governors Scholar and an Albermarle Scholar. Williams received the Chancellors Scholarship to the UA where he plans to major in engineering. Brian Maroon, son of Tim and Nancy Maroon, is a Highest Honors grad. He was a member of the NHS, FBLA, GT, Senior Class vice president, Quiz Bowl Captain, band, named to Whos Who Among American High School Students, the National Honor Roll, U.S. Achievement Academy, baseball and is a Senior of Distinction. Maroon was awarded the SAU Foundation Scholarship and plans on becoming a wildlife biologist. Antonio Henry, son of Charles and Brenda Henry, is a Highest Honors grad. He made the honor roll from grade 7-12, earned academic awards in Spanish I, Computer Technology, Business Applications, Civics, named to Whos Who Among American Students, earned the Presidents Award for Academic Excellence in the ninth grade, was in Upward Bound grades 9-11, in Talent Search grades 8-12, was class president grades 7-11, in FCA grades 8-10, FBLA, junior and senior high basketball. Henry plans on majoring in Business Administration at Henderson State University. Regina Leaks, daughter of Bobbie Madison and Willie Leaks, is also a Highest Honors grad. She was a member of Talent Search, Drug-Free team, Student Council, FCA, the Environmental Club treasurer, NHS, FBLA, named to Whos Who Among American High School Students, National Honor Roll, assistant yearbook editor, Senior class treasurer, basketball, earned the rebound award, the offensive player award, All-District and All-Tournament. Leaks will attend SAU majoring in Business Administration. Doricko Henry, son of Janice Henry and Herbert Coleman, is a Highest Honor grad. He played basketball grades 7-12, earned the Presidents Award for Academic Excellence as a freshman, was on the Honor Roll grades 7-12, FCA grades 7-10, Whos Who Among American High School Students, class representative in the ninth grade, Student Council as a freshman, FBLA in the ninth grade, Quiz Bowl in grade seven, Upward Bound grades 10-11, and was captain of the basketball team as a senior. He plans on attending UA and majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Channing Watts, daughter of Donell and Charlotte Watts, is a Highest Honor grad. She was in FBLA, Talent Search, NHS, on the Drug-Free team, named Whos Who Among Americas High School Students, National Honor Roll, Senior class president, Senior of Distinction, and co-captain of the basketball team. Watts plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas and major in Speech Pathology. Fredrica Quarles, daughter of the late Fredrick Quarles and Bobby and Linda Mullins, is a High Honors grad. She was a member of the NHS, the Drug-Free team, Student Council president, Senior Class secretary, Senior of Distinction, Miss NHS, named to Whos Who Among Americas High School Students, National Honor Roll, was MVP of the Lady Blue Jays 2003-2004, All-Region, All-State, captain of the Lady Jays, and was All-District in softball. Quarles plans to major in psychology at SAU. Sharissa Overton, daughter of Rick and Tina Overton, is a High Honors grad. She was a cheerleader, member of FBLA, National Honor Society, the Drug-Free team, Honor Roll, and FBLA District winner in Desktop Publishing. She plans to attend SAU and major in pre-med. Coneshia Gulley, daughter of Jacqueline Gulley and granddaughter of Aaron and Lois Gulley, is an Honors grad. She was in NHS, made the Honor Roll, was on the Drug-Free team, Whos Who Among American High School Students, All-Tournament in basketball in 2003, and All-District in 2002-2003. Gulley plans to major in Business at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. Brittany Baker, daughter of Scott and Loretta Baker, is an Honors grad. She was a member of FBLA, Drug-Free team, NHS, Art Club, Science Club, class officer, secretary in FBLA, band, GT, and graduated under the Accelerated Program of study. Baker plans to attend UACCH and pursue a career in nursing. Angela Smyth, daughter of Cheryl and Greg Smyth, is an Honors grad.
