Area schools set calendarsPublished Wednesday, May 4, 2005 in the Nevada County PicayuneSchool year set for Prescott, Nevada districts Trustees of the Prescott and Nevada school districts have adopted official calendars for the 2005-2006 school year in each district. Both calendars reflect the standard 190-day teacher schedule and 178-day student schedule for Prescott and Nevada County schools. Prescott will begin classes Aug. 19, and will conclude the school year on June 5. Prescotts calendar does not specify a graduation date. The Prescott schedule will include required professional development days on Sept. 19 and Oct. 3, with students out of classes both days. Labor Day will mark the first official holiday in Prescott on Sept. 5, and classes will be dismissed at 2 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the end of the first nine weeks, with no classes scheduled Oct. 21. Local professional development days without students will include Nov. 3-4, and the Thanksgiving holiday will be observed Nov. 23-25. Christmas and New Year holidays will be observed Dec. 19 - Jan. 2 with return to classes Jan. 3. The Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday will be observed Jan. 16, and classes will be dismissed at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 for parent-teacher conferences, with no classes scheduled Feb. 17. Presidents Day will be observed Feb. 20, and Spring Break is set for March 20-24, with Memorial Day to be observed May 29. Prescott students may get report cards at school offices between 8 a.m. and noon June 13, or they may leave a self-addressed, stamped envelope in their homeroom class for mailing. Nevada Public Schools will begin classes on Aug. 22, and will not be in class on Labor Day, Sept. 5. Thanksgiving holidays will be observed Nov. 23-25, and Christmas/New Year break will be Dec. 17 - Jan. 2, with students returning to class on Jan. 3. Students will also be out of class on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day on Jan. 16, and Presidents Day on Feb. 20. Spring Break will be observed from March 27-31, and a school holiday for the annual prom will be observed April 21. Memorial Day will also be observed with no classes on May 29.
