Matches get blame for apartment fireBY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, April 6, 2005 in the Gurdon Times Fire broke out at Crestwood Apartments early Tuesday morning, with one apartment gutted and several others having smoke and water damage. Gurdon Fire Chief Jake McBride said, We were there from midnight until about 1:57 a.m. to get the fire under control. Apartment B-3 was gutted, where the fire started. It was the apartment of Roy and Vanessa Sims. It appears the fire started from a pile of matches. McBride said smoke and water damage may have gotten into B-4, B-2 and maybe B-1. No injuries were reported. Two pumper trucks were on the scene, along with 11 fire fighters. The actual fire was contained to the one apartment, according to the chief.
