Vehicle hits girl on bike

A nine-year-old Gurdon girl, on a bicycle, was struck by a car on Tuesday afternoon near the primary school.

Gurdon Police Officer Ricky Clark is the investigating officer.

Clark said Nicola Stiles, daughter of Carolyn Scott, 511 North 10th Street, Gurdon, was transported to Baptist Hospital in Arkadelphia. Stiles was treated for a cut on her arm and referred to an oral surgeon for problems with her teeth. The officer said there were no life-threatening injuries.

Nicola was very lucky, Clark said. The incident is still under investigation at this time, but no tickets have been issued.

According to Clark, Jocelin Brown, of 1000 Smithton Road, Gurdon, was heading south on 10th Street. The incident was reported at 5:04 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22.

Nicola Stiles was heading east on Pine Street by bicycle. Clark said witnesses indicated the bicycle pulled into the path of the vehicle. The vehicle swerved to miss her.

Clark said, I am still investigating this accident, but according to what witnesses have said it does not appear that Brown could have done anything more than she did to avoid the accident.
