Arts League sets busy schedule

A balloonist will be on hand for the annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 26.

The balloonist is sponsored by the Artesian Arts League. He will tie balloons into various shapes for children while they await their turn to hunt for the eggs hidden on Bemis Field at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

The League, at its March meeting, discussed a table topper event for April 30. Members talked about inviting Chris Olsen from KTHV to speak to those who attend the event. However, Olsen may not be available and someone else could be sought to speak.

But, it was also discussed to move the table topper to July and hold it in conjunction with Chocolate Sundae. Chocolate Sundae is a tasty event, with chocolate desserts and other treats. The table topper could be based on a patriotic theme.

But, no decision was made about the table topper.

Phillip McAdams, League president, said there was talk at the February meeting of having racks built for the chairs to keep from having to lean them against the walls. The cost would be about $300 for a rack that holds 40 chairs. It was mentioned the Prescott High School Future Farmers of America program does such work for donations, and could build the racks for the League. James Cannon will be contacted to see if this is a viable option.

A letter was sent to Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor, along with members of the Prescott City Council concerning the portion of the upstairs recently vacated by the Prescott Parks and Recreation Department.

The Arts League is seeking a long-term lease with the city giving the League control of the entire second floor. The idea is to have the lease so grants can be sought for improvements, including the possibility of an elevator.

McAdams said it would be a win-win situation for all parties involved as the second floor would be used, protected and maintained.

The group also discussed the possibility of having a dinner theater production this summer with a barbecue feed. The production would be a "who dunnit" with audience participation.

Those present agreed to move the meeting for April to the second Tuesday (April 12), at 6:30 p.m. This was done to avoid conflicts from other meetings.
