Train derailment dumps wood

Published Wednesday, March 16, 2005 in the Gurdon Times

Gurdon police reported a train derailment on Tuesday between the intersections of South and Miller Streets.

Police Officer Garry Marshall said Union Pacific Railroad workers told him there were no injuries in the incident, but four boxcars were overturned. This dumped stacks of processed wood on the ground near the tracks.

Clean-up continued on Thursday by Union Pacific crews. Marshall said the local police were notified, but otherwise do not have to participate in such an occurrence.

"We are glad they got the repairs along far enough to continue their train traffic flow and that there were no injuries," he said.

Approximately a dozen workers, with heavy equipment, were involved in the clean-up on Thursday.
