Published Wednesday, March 24, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesPRESCOTT 5 The Devils opened play in the classic with an 11-5 win over their hosts. Gurdon posted nine runs in three innings to put the game all but out of reach. Scoring opened with the Devils bringing one in on a bases-loaded ground out in the first. Four more crossed home plate in the second on a bases loaded walk, followed by a fielding error. A couple of bases loaded hits in the third, along with another error, brought another quartet of Devils around the circuit. The Wolves threatened in the first. After getting the bases loaded with two down, the Wolf batter went down on strikes. In the third, with runners at second and third and two down a pop fly sent the Wolves back to the field. The bottom of the fourth saw the Wolves get on the board with two. With two outs, Brad Harris hit a two RBI single, driving in Gabe Morman and Jarrod Miller. However, the Devils got those runs back in the top of the fifth on an error, double and a fielder's choice. An error and two-run blast by Jarrod Yates ended scoring in the game in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Bullock was the losing pitcher for Prescott, giving up eight hits and nine walks while fanning five in six innings.
