Fun Day Held At Park By Coalition

Published Wednesday, September 15, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

Now that school is back in session, Boys to Men and Girls to Women (BM-GW) Coalition felt it appropriate to kick off the year with a bang.

Saturday, September 4, BM-GW of Prescott sponsored a family fun day in Prescott City Park from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Fun day involved many activities, including singing, poem reading, story telling, folk art dancing, parents and students talk on back to school. It also included friendly competitive games, such as an egg walk, group maneuvers, basketball between the knees and group foot races.

Prizes were given to the winners of each competition. Every kid who participated left the fun day with a prize.

These activities promoted the skill of working with others to attain a common goal; develop the spirit of friendly competition; in a team it takes all to make a whole to get a job done; and to get along in life.

Time was allowed for current BM-GW members to re-certified and for first-time participants to file applications to become members.

A total of 57 applications were received.

There were 80 persons in attendance including 57 mentees, 18 mentor/parents and five others.

All the hot dogs, chips and cold pops one could eat and drink were available. Mixed music was provided throughout the activity.

The BMGW coalition is a non-profit organization, established to hep at-risk young men and women avoid the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gang violence and teen pregnancy and to assist them in becoming productive citizens in the society.
