Helen Lowe Tarpley, 82, of Gurdon, died Sunday, January 30, 2005.

She was a homemaker, a coordinator for the Golden Age Club, former Brownie and Cub Scout leader, member of the C.D.&E Club, a Charter member of the Gurdon Historical Preservation association, a noted historian for her lifelong interest in the history of Gurdon and Clark Co. and a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, of Gurdon, where she held many positions in the church including assistant organist and Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include: sons, Eddie Tarpley and wife Debbie of Hot Springs and Billy Tarpley and wife Sally of Gurdon; daughter, Judy Barfield and husband Cleve of Prescott; five grandchildren, Jana Barfield of Louisville, Ky., Rebecca Barfield of Fayetteville, Heather Cook of Baton Rouge, La., J.T. Tarpley of Batesville, and Natalie Tarpley of Gurdon.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church of Gurdon with Rev. James Wilson and Rev. Rusty Jones officiating. Burial in Bethel Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home in Gurdon. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Gurdon.
