Clinton Barham

Clinton Barham, 89, of Longview, Texas, went home to be with the Lord January 31, 2005.

He was born in Prescott to Clint A. and Hannah Sandusky Barham. He attended the Redland Community schools near Prescott. During World War II Mr. Barham worked as a welder for Consolidated Steel Ltd., Shipbuilding Division, in Orange, Texas. While there he was privileged to experience the Division's receipt of the Army-Navy "E" award for outstanding production, along with the launching of the USS Farnunar. He served as a welding instructor of women who entered the workforce at that time, and took pride of the fact that all ships they produced proved to be seaworthy.

In 1951, Mr. Barham moved to Longview to work for LeTourneau Industries as a machinist. He later worked as a welder for Lone Star Steel Co., from which he retired in 1986. Periodically during the year, Mr. Barham worked for Longview Welding and Radiator Shop on Highway 80.

Mr. Barham has been a committed Christian and loving and faithful husband throughout the years. He was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church for more than 50 years and served there as a deacon. He was also active in the tape and prayer ministries of Mobberly.

Mr. Barham was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in childhood, and his younger brother, Jack.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Oleta White Barham; his son and daughters-in-law, Dr. Charles and Mary Barham of Longview; two grandchildren, Paul Barham and wife, Lisa of San Antonio, Texas and Dr. Andrea B. Jensen and husband, Karl, of Cedar Park, Texas; three great-grandchildren, James Jensen, Joshua Barham, and Hannah Barham; one brother, Dr. Warren Barham, of Gilroy, Calif., as well as nieces and nephews in Calif., Okla., Mo., Ark., and Texas.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, at Mobberly Baptist Church, 625 East Loop 281, with Dr. Lane Johnson officiating. Burial followed at 2 p.m. in Liberty Cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Local arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

The family requests memorials be made in honor of Mr. Barham to: Life Care Hospice, 2020 Bill Owens Parkway, Suite 100, Longview, Texas 75604 and to the Mobberly Baptist Church "Growing for Tomorrow" Fund, 625 East Loop 281, Longview, Texas 75605.
