Helen TarpleyPublished Wednesday, February 9, 2005 in the Gurdon TimesHelen Lowe Tarpley, 82, of Gurdon, died Sunday, Jan. 30. She as a homemaker, a coordinator for the Golden Age Club, former Brownie and Cub Scout leader, member of the CD&E Club, a charter member of the Gurdon Historical Preservation Association, a noted historian for her lifelong interest in the history of Gurdon and Clark County, and a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gurdon, where she held many positions in the church, including assistant organist and Sunday School teacher. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Bob Mac Tarpley. Survivors include: two sons; Eddie Tarpley and wife, Debbie, of Hot Springs, and Billy Tarpley and wife, Sally, of Gurdon; a daughter, Judy Barfield and husband, Cleve, of Prescott, and five grandchildren; Jana Barfield, Louisville, Kentucky; Rebecca Barfield, Fayetteville; Heather Cook, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; J.T. Tarpley, Batesville; and Natalie Tarpley, Gurdon. Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church of Gurdon, with the Rev. James Wilson and the Rev. Rusty Jones officiating. Burial was scheduled in the Bethel Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home in Gurdon. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Gurdon.
