Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

Friday, Jan. 28, was one of those days for the Wolverettes as they had fits scoring against the Lady Cobras of Fountain Lake and fell 40-25.

To say the Wolverettes were cold would be an understatement. Prescott won the opening tip and got off four shots, three from point-blank range, missing them all before Fountain Lake managed to swipe a rebound.

It really didn't make much of a difference which team had the ball in the first quarter as neither could hit anything. Period one came to end with the score 4-2 in Prescott's favor. It was the last time the Wolverettes would lead in the game.

Turnovers plagued both teams in the second quarter, as they had in the first. The Lady Cobras managed to take the lead, 8-6, with 3:29 left in the half, and outscored the Wolverettes 5-2 for the remainder of the period.

Halftime arrived with Prescott on the short end of a 13-8 score.

The only real difference between the Wolverettes and Lady Cobras was Fountain Lake's ability to put the ball in the hole. Neither team played particularly well, nor was either very effective for senior teams this late in the season.

Prescott scored first in the second half, and managed to stay close for the first two-and-a-half minutes of the third before foul problems benched Treva Smallwood, taking out one of the major forces Prescott had in the paint. Two minutes later, she was joined on the bench by Daloris Steuart.

The loss of these two made it easier for the Lady Cobras to score. With 1:21 left in the frame, Fountain Lake stretched its lead to double digits at 24-13. The Lady Cobras scored two more points in the waning moments of the period, while Prescott hit a late three to make it 26-16.

There was little scoring early on in the final eight minutes, but the Lady Cobras were able to do more with their scoring opportunities than the Wolverettes. Fountain Lake outscored Prescott 14-9 in the fourth quarter.

The Wolverettes were six of 19 from the charity stripe, while the Lady Cobras were only slightly better, hitting eight of 15.

Steuart led Prescott with 13 points.

Heather Ford paced the Lady Cobras with 12. Lanae Hernandez was next with 10.

Prescott 36

Ashdown 48

The Wolverettes found the going rough at Ashdown, coming home with a 48-36 loss.

Prescott managed to stay close, 13-12, in the first period, but saw the Lady Panthers pull away in the second, taking a 27-16 advantage to the locker room at the break.

The situation didn't improve for the visitors in the third, as Ashdown went up 38-24.

Prescott was nine of 19 from the line, while Ashdown converted six of 10 free throws.

Steuart led the Wolverettes with 12.

Brittany White was the game's leading scorer with 18. K. Fricks had 13.
