It's been a rough past few weeks for the Wolverettes, as Prescott's senior girl's basketball team has dropped four straight.

The latest loss was a 35-25 heartbreaker to Mena Friday, January 21.

For three quarters the Wolverettes either led or were close, but simply found a lid on the basket in the final eight minutes, when the team could only score three points and had two members foul out.

The Lady Bearcats played a deliberate game, working the ball and tried to get the best shots possible. Mena led 7-6 with 4:02 left in the first quarter, but Prescott rallied and scored the final four points of the period and took a 10-7 lead into the second frame.

The Lady Cats pressed the Wolverettes, trying to force mistakes. However, the problem for both teams was the inability to put the ball in the hole, regardless of how close to the bucket the players were. Each crew missed several fairly easy shots.

Still, the Wolverettes managed to maintain the lead, and extended it to five points by the half at 16-11.

Unfortunately for Prescott the Lady Cats came alive, somewhat, in the third quarter and were able to score more consistently. Mena went on a 5-0 run, tying the score at 16-16, before the Wolverettes managed to get a bucket.

Mena was in the bonus with 2:37 left in the period, and managed to take the lead at 25-22 when the buzzer sounded.

For the next eight minutes it appeared as though there was a lid on Prescott's basket. The Wolverettes played hard, but had fits getting the ball to fall.

Prescott was six of 10 at the charity stripe, while Mena converted 15 of 26 free throws.

Daloris Stueart led all scorers with 13 in the game.

Samantha Goodner led Mena with 12, while Brittany Browning added 11.

Prescott held a 9-8 lead at the end of one, and was up 17-14 at the break. The third period saw the Wolverettes up 29-27 over the Lady Jays. Unfortunately, Prescott could only score four points in the last eight minutes, while Nevada poured in 19.

The Wolverettes were four of nine at the line, with Nevada hitting 13 of 19.

Stueart had the hot hand for the Wolverettes with 27 points.

The Wolverettes made the trip to Bismark on Jan. 11, fought hard, but were unable to overcome the Lady Lions and dropped a 46-42 heartbreaker.

Prescott got off to a good start, leading 7-4 at the end of one, but trailed by eight at halftime, 22-14. The Wolverettes outscored Bismarck 13-11 in the third quarter, but trailed 33-27. Prescott managed to outscore the Lady Lions in the fourth period as well, 15-13, but it simply wasn't enough.

The Wolverettes converted seven of 16 from the stripe, while the Lady Lions hit 10 of 17.

Treva Smallwood carried Prescott with 18, while Rainy Smallwood chipped in 11.

Sloane Turner led Bismarck with 15. Diane McDaniel had 10.
