Morning blaze consumes most of Gurdon homeBY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, January 12, 2005 in the Gurdon Times A house fire began at approximately 8 a.m. Friday at 202 Tate Street, Gurdon, in what appears to have been a back bathroom. Darlty Bunn, 82, resident of the house, was watching firemen fight the blaze and said he was not at home when the fire started. Nobody else was inside, according to the resident. Fire Chief Jake McBride, and at least four other firemen, a couple of local police, and the Baptist Hospital ambulance service van, were standing by. Two firetrucks were still on the scene at 8:45 a.m. and the fire was contained from harming other residences. McBride said the fire appeared to have started in a back bathroom, but the cause and exact location of the hot spot were still under investigation. Firemen were able to contain the fire to the single-level brick home, which had flames arising from the center part of the building. Bunn said he had no idea what could have caused the fire. Gurdon Police Officer Jay Smithpeters said it appeared to the firefighters the hot spot was in a back bathroom or possibly the kitchen. Firemen would be on the scene at least another hour containing the blaze. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
