Mayor welcomes state paving projectBY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, December 15, 2004 in the Gurdon Times The Arkansas State Highway Department is in the process of a paving project that will continue after Highway 53 in Gurdon is done. Mayor Clayton Franklin said Thursday the project is now in process by way of milling Highway 53, from Highway 67, down south to where the old Gurdon Ford place was, past the railroad tracks. "This is a separate project from the city's efforts to pave our streets and it came at a great time," Franklin said. "The timing on all of this depends on the weather. It is my understanding that after this stretch of road is complete, the AHD will go back the other way, off Highway 67 turning toward Interstate 30, to Hollywood." According to Franklin, the second project will probably get under way in the spring and go all the way to Highway 8. He said the plan was to resurface from Griffin woods. Jim Caldwell, street superintendent, said, "They will mill the roads, which means removing a layer, then put a fresh layer down, first going all the way through town on Highway 53. The state did something similar at the first of the year on Highway 67 from Arkadelphia to Gurdon." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
