Teacher lists Turkey Trot winnersBY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, November 24, 2004 in the Gurdon Times The entire Gurdon Primary School, Pre-K through the fourth grade, was put on the run for Thanksgiving with a school-wide "Turkey Trot." A 2 p.m. award ceremony occurred on Thursday, Nov. 18, in the primary school gym. In addition to student trophies, Pam Runyan, third grade teacher, won a trophy award for the best turkey dance amongst the faculty. Substitute teacher Charles Shaver had some headgear and did his best to nearly win. Some said he was a close second. Physical Education teacher Beth Miller said, "I timed all 351 students on speed and distance. It was an all-school event with a lot of fun. We ended up with three overall winners, and winners in each grade." The overall winners were: Seth Shaver, fourth grade; Brandon Beals, second grade; and Mason Clark, third grade. Winners by grade were: Pre-K, Thomas Muldrow, Jennifer Acosta; kindergarten, Donald Haynie, Keoyna Jones and Tiarra Fields; first grade, Alia Williams, Damontra' Quarles, Breyan Samuels and Jackie Harvell; second grade, Cameron Mayhue, Davian Richardson and Beals; third grade, Clark, Nick Smith, Austen Kirkpatrick and Bailey Pettit; and fourth grade, Tyler Hunter, Shaver, Edward Hood and Kynan Barrett.
