John's Journey

My first Forest Festival was pretty good. It was nice to see the streets of Gurdon perky and people checking out the car show, the parade, the booths, the Main Stage and each other.

I took a lot more pictures than our newspaper would hold, but that is about par for the course with such events.

My favorite part was the street dance, when I got to relax and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. I struck up a conversation with someone also listening to the music and shared a few minutes with a new friend.

Then one of my friends up the street, Rex, came and told me there was a two for one special on corn dogs at Sonic and I was off for a cheap, late night supper. I wish more dancers had been around for the finale of the festival, but the ones who did come out seemed like they were enjoying themselves.

And then this week rolled around with the election. As most know, not much changed in the leadership nationally or locally.

As a journalist, I have always had an interest in politics. As an older journalist, with a few more miles on me, I have learned to take it all with a grain of salt. Still, I was very impressed with the high voter turn-out. Most elections are lucky to get a third of the voters to the booths. This one was well over 60 percent. Wow.

And then there was this weekend. I went to church as usual and also played some chess. I won a couple of games but still am not back to my old self on the chessboard. I used to be president of the chess club back in Hagerstown, Indiana. But I have slept since then.

Saturday, the Street Department and City Hall workers came out to put up Christmas decorations around here. I got a photo. It is hard to believe Christmas is just around the corner. Well, it is. We've got turkey day first. Well, it will all be over before you know it and we will be wishing each other a Happy New Year. Until next time, this is John, still on his Journey.
