The time is here for Gurdon's Holiday Trail of Lights display and the route is in place.

Tambra Childres, recorder and treasurer for Gurdon, said Wednesday, "We are expecting out-of-town guests to check out our tour of lights and decorations as well as our city. We are asking and encouraging our citizens to get their Christmas decorations up early this year so we can make a good impression. And it would be appreciated if people would clean up their yards especially along the tour lines."

Starting this past Saturday, Childres said the 41 new poles and Christmas decorations are up, with special thanks to Entergy. They installed the plug-in features and the Christmas decorations, such as a snowflake etc., were put right in to keep from having to go up twice.

Gurdon received two Cabe Foundation grants, amounting to approximately $20,000, for the new lights and fixtures. Then the city's efforts to get on the Trail of Holiday Lights were co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Gurdon did appear in the Trail of Holiday Lights brochure.

"To be in the brochure, you must have your lights up by Nov. 17 and keep them lit from 5-11 p.m. through Dec. 27," Childres said.

As to the old city decorations, Okolona has picked up a few, according to Childres. She described the tour line and said signs would soon be up so the out-of-towners would not get confused.

First go down Main Street, off of Highway 67. Take a left on First Street, in front of the depot. Then drive to City Hall and make a circle. Then go back down to First Street and turn in front of Country Kitchen on East Walnut. Turn right on North Second Street, in front of the newspaper office, and take a left on Main Street. Go down Main Street and take a left on Third Street, next to Sonic, then take a left on East Walnut.

"After they follow all that and see what we have, they can surely find their way back out of town," Childres said.

"We are having two light meter loops installed next to the Gurdon Times and Kuhn's Hardware. They are the type that the polls will be there for the next time."

In addition to the residents, Childres is also encouraging Gurdon businesses to decorate for Christmas early.

"The more we have and the more yards that are cleaned up, the better impression we make for the tour," she said.
