The Gurdon Go-Devils took a wet football field on Friday night but did not seem to have a lot of trouble caging the Horatio Lions in the last home game of the regular season.

The final victory was a 36-13 win, putting Gurdon 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference. The Devils will be away this coming Friday, Nov. 5, at Fouke, which will be the last game of the regular season.

As to Horatio, Gurdon got on the board in the first quarter when Jonathan Lacy made a 52-yard run for the first touchdown with 10:03 still on the clock. Frank Smith got the ball back for Gurdon, taking possession on the 43 yard line.

Then Jamelle Lacy carried the ball to the 32 yard line. This was followed by another big carry by Jonathon Lacy.

Jamelle Lacy scored the second Go-Devil touchdown with 8:12 left in the second quarter. Daniel Frances helped make the two-point conversion, making it 14-0 Gurdon.

But with 3:02 left in the first half, Horatio scored and their extra point was good, making it 14-7. This apparently did not suit senior Jamelle Lacy. With 1:52 seconds left in the first half, he made a 47-yard-run for another touchdown, making it 20-7 Go-Devils. The extra point was good, so then it was at 21-7 and remained that score until halftime.

The band came out in uniform, and the rains held off for the halftime show. The first selection was, "It is so Lonely I could Cry," then "Hey Good Lookin'" and this writer's favorite, "Come Together." They played another 70s tune from the stands this writer remembers, "Smoke on the Water." While on the field, the band put down their instruments and danced.

When the third quarter geared up, Clayton Rainey blocked a punt. Then it was time for senior Frank Smith to get a touchdown, after going 35 yards, making it 27-7. The extra point was good, making it 28-7 with 3:28 left in the third.

Things went back and forth the rest of the third quarter, but started heating up in the fourth. Maybe it was the full moon. Jamelle Lacy made another touchdown, running nearly three-fourths the way across the football field to score.

The two-point conversion was good, changing the score to 36-7. Smith make a tackle, but hurt his head with about nine minutes in the game. The injury did not slow him down much, as he continued to play ball.

With 4:13 left in the ball game, Horatio made a touchdown, bringing the score up to 36-13. James Hartsfield tried to run but got stopped at 4:02. Then senior Ben Gooding made an interception with 2:21 left in the game.

The battle continued but the clock ran out, leaving Gurdon the winner, 36-13.
