Cox Farms "Elite" In Simbrah Cattle

Published Wednesday, March 31, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

Cox Farms of Gurdon is among an elite group of leading breeders of Simbrah cattle in the United States.

Cox Farms, owned and operated by the Cox and McKinnon families, is included in the spring 1999 edition of American Simbrah magazine among a listing of the American Simmental Associations' most prominent Simbrah breeders.

The listing is based on the number of Simbrah cattle registered during 1998.

Simbrah cattle are often referred to as "the world's breed" and effectively combine the genetics of the world's two most populous breeds of cattle, Brahman and Simmental.

Brahman genetics provide heat tolerance, insect resistance, longevity and adaptability to the heat and humidity of the Gulf states. Simmental is credited with bringing docility, muscling, milk and fertility to the mix.

The Simbrah breed registry is maintained by the American Simmental Association (ASA), which also maintains the Simmental herd book.

ASA has an active membership of 10,000, including a junior membership of 4,000. The organization is headquartered in Bozeman, Mont.
