Mark CarpenterPublished Wednesday, October 13, 2004 in the Gurdon TimesMark R. Carpenter, 89, of Gurdon, died on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004. He was a pot tender for Reynolds Metal Company, and an Army Veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star. Survivors include his daughters: Marsha Lynne Dixon of Cooksville, Maryland; Marlene Childers, Redfield; and Clara Stroud of Cabot; sisters, Ludie Edwards of Orange, Calif. and Barbara "Sally Culliver of Elk City, Okla.; and grandchildren: Christina Dixon of Baltimore, and Drew Childers of Redfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle, and son-in-law, Jerry Stroud. Funeral services were to be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, in the Horne Chapel.
