Go-Devils lose mud battle to Spring Hill Bears, 21-6BY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, October 13, 2004 in the Gurdon Times The Gurdon Go-Devils took on Spring Hill at home this week, with the Bears coming out on top, 21-6. Scoring ceased at halftime, when the mud and the mood of the cool and damp evening rendered no more points for either side during the third or fourth quarters. Assistant Coach Hank Lewis said, "The loss leaves us at 2-4, with it being 0-3 for the conference. There is not much you can say about a game like that one." Neither team scored until about five minutes left in the first quarter. Then the Bears made a touchdown and extra point, leading 7-0. Then with 10:23 left in the second quarter, the Bears pushed it to 14-0. Jamelle Lacy took the ensuing kick on the 26-yard line and ran it in for the home team's only touchdown of the evening. There was 2:45 seconds left in the half. Coach Lewis said, "Jamelle did a good job on that one." The Bears answered with another TD, plus an extra point, and the score at halftime was 21-6. Calvin Nolan, a senior quarterback, was injured and taken from the field before the scoring even began in the first quarter. The second half was a series of penalties, yelling from fans concerning the officiating and watching the Go-Devils go back and forth on the football field. Gurdon will be away this coming Friday at Mineral Springs. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The following week is the Go-Devils Homecoming against Murfreesboro on Friday, Oct. 22. The queen and her court were chosen this week. Crista Hopsen is the homecoming queen for 2004, according to fellow student Jennifer Nolan. Jamelle Lacy will escort the queen. Others in the court that Miss Nolan knew include: Courtney Berry escorting Jenek Henry, Calvin Nolan escorting Haleigh McDaniels, Hunter Johnson escorting Taylor Pace, Ben Gooding escorting Blair Griffin, and T.J. Morgan escorting Jennifer Hopsen. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
