The Go-Devils suffered a loss to the Dierks Outlaws, 20-8, on Friday night, in an away game battle that did prove Gurdon's defense is strong and the team's heart is to win.

It was 7-0 Outlaws, with 10 minutes to go in the first quarter.

After battling it out to the end of the second quarter, the Gurdon Go-Devils held the score at 7-0.

Jamelle Lacy took the ball away at 1:14 left in the first half when the Outlaws were two-and-a-half yards from a touchdown. The interception put the Go-Devils on the 20-yard line, but the clock ran out and it was halftime.

Going into the second half of the game, the Outlaws picked up the pitch and it became 14-0.

Lonnie Lacy stopped another attempt at the touchdown by batting a football out of the way. Gurdon defense was alive Friday night. It put molasses in the Dierks machine. In addition, T.J. Morgan kept going with his long-yardage punting.

Kenneth Harper had a leg injury and was taken off the field to an ambulance.

The game began to turn around with 3:56 seconds left in the third. Lonnie Lacy, in the quarterback position, made the first Gurdon touchdown.

Jamelle Lacy picked up two more points on the conversion, leaving the score 14-8, putting Gurdon back in the contest.

But despite playing with their heart, the Gurdon offense just couldn't connect any more points.

With less than five minutes left in the game, Dierks scored again, pulling away, 20-8, over the Go-Devils.

Head Coach John Pace said the Go-Devils went to Dierks ready to play, "to play hard and not flat."

In a pre-game interview, Coach Pace said Dierks has the best team they have put together in 20 years.

The win puts Dierks 5-0 for the season and the Go-Devils go 2-3, and 0-3 in the conference.

Gurdon plays at home Friday night, Oct. 8, against Spring Hill. It will be another conference battle with game time at 7:30 p.m.
