It was an important victory on Friday night when the Gurdon Go-Devils came out and shut down the Junction City Dragons during the first half and held them the second for an 18-15 Go-Devils win.

Gurdon Go-Devil Assistant Coach Hank Lewis said, "Our kids came ready to play and played hard offensively and defensively. Junction City is ranked No. 2 in the state. They were 15-0 last year and went all the way to state. This was really a great victory for us."

The win leaves Gurdon 2-1, with 7AA west conference play starting next Friday, Sept. 24, when the Go-Devils go on the road to face Foreman. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.

As to the Junction City game, the first Go-Devil touchdown was scored by Jamelle Lacy, making it 6-0 Gurdon with 8:57 left in the first half. Then Courtney Berry, recovered a fumble before the half and scored Go-Devil touchdown number two, making it 12-0.

Coach Lewis said the third touchdown came in the third quarter when Cameron Kennedy, scored on a hitch and pitch play. His TD made it 18-8 Go-Devils.

Lonnie Lacy, made an important catch when the clock was running out, which helped hold Junction City at 18-15.

On the junior high school level, Gurdon took on Spring Hill Thursday and beat them 16-0, making their record 1-2. Coach Lewis said the Junior Go-Devils go on the road this coming Thursday, Sept. 23, to face Fouke away. Game time is at 7 p.m.

"All I can say is our Gurdon players are really getting in there and playing some good ball this year. Come out and support the Go-Devils.," Coach Lewis said.

Lewis is the head coach on the junior high school level.
