Cross Country team doing well, readying for state meetPublished Wednesday, September 15, 2004 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott's junior and senior high cross country teams competed against six other teams at the Southern Arkansas University Invitational Saturday, Aug. 5. Other teams in the meet were: Arkadelphia, Magnolia, Monticello, Genoa Central, De Queen and Hot Springs High. Prescott placed three runners in the top 10 of two divisions. In the junior girl's division, eighth grader Alex Haynes finished 10th while Katy Rowden finished 14th and Jessica Haney was 17th. This was out of 47 runners. In the junior boys division, eighth graders Jacob Clark was seventh with Skyler Reeder came in eighth. Cass Martin finished 30th, with Casey Key 39th out of 45 runners. Seth Reeder was 31st in the senior boys division, with Cory Turner 50th out of 56 runners. Cross country is a run across open fields marked with track markers, around ponds, over hills and between trees. The tougher the course is, the better the race. Racers compete against all size schools from AA to AAAAA in the same race. Team scoring is done by adding the team's top five runner's scores in each division. The lower score wins the team division. With this being the first year for cross country at Prescott there is not a complete team at this time. The Wolves and Wolverettes have seven meets scheduled for the season, including the state championship, which will be held at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs on Nov. 6. The remaining schedule shows the cross country teams will be at Bryant on Sept. 18; at Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia on Sept. 25; in Russellville on Oct. 2; at Lake Hamilton on Oct. 9; and ending the regular season Oct. 16 at Conway.
