August weather ho, humBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, September 8, 2004 in the Nevada County Picayune Weather in August was nothing to write home about. Actually, it was a bit cooler than usual for the ninth month of the year, which is traditionally one of the hottest. According to Phillip McAdams, Prescott's weather watcher, the high for the month was 92, recorded Aug. 3-4 and 27. The low was 57 on Aug. 14-15. Davis Benton, Cale meteorologist, said the high in the south part of Nevada County was a balmy 97, while the lowest temperature recorded was 58. McAdams said the Prescott area received 3.63 inches of rain during the month, while Benton said Cale had 1.9 inches of wet stuff. According to Benton, 38.79 inches of rain has fallen thus far this year, which is about five inches above normal. This, in itself, is unusual as the pattern the last few years has been a rain deficit. McAdams said the largest single amount of rain fell on Aug. 19, when 1.85 inches fell. The next largest amount was 1.03 inches on Aug. 11. Most of the rain during the month fell on three days. He added the average daily high was 87 for August, while the average daily low was 67 degrees Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
