Forest Festival will be here soonBY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, September 8, 2004 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon's annual Forest Festival has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, with the parade starting at 9 a.m. Billy Wells and Paul Shaver will co-chair the event, with the parade participants leaving from the old Bell High School. Wells said, "This is the big festival for Gurdon and it has been going on for nearly 20 years. We will have Second Street and Main Street blocked off for booths and concessions. If you want a space for booth, contact me by the second week in October." Wells can be reached at: 353-4335, Billy's Main Street Florist. Wells said the Forest Festival is a homecoming for the people of Gurdon, with friends and relatives from all over the country showing up. "We have all sorts of people coming out of the wood work," he said. "We have booth spaces for arts and crafts, along with band stand entertainment all day. For those interested in the band aspect, they should contact Terry LeMay." Wells said the night of the festival has a street dance. The entire thing is sponsored by the CD& E Club, which has about 20 members. Wells, president of Community Development and Entertainment Club, said his favorite part of the Forest Festival is the auction. "That is where we make our money," he said. "And thank God for Hoo Hoo, a lumberman's international fraternity. They really help us out." Wells said those interested in having a parade entry should contact Joanne Shaver or Jerry Don Childers.
