Chamber auction does well again; raises $8,000BY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, September 1, 2004 in the Gurdon Times The 2004 Gurdon Chamber of Commerce Dinner/Silent and Live Auction was held Tuesday night at the Gurdon High School Cafetorium, with profits being about normal at approximately $8,000. Michelle Anderson, of the Gurdon Chamber, said Thursday exact figures will be available next week, "but we did about as good as usual." Attendance, from the observation of this reporter, was at least 100 eaters with many bidding on something. Tambra Childres, Gurdon recorder/treasurer, said she and her husband, Don Childres, "bid $40 for a pie and then donated it back to the cause." Many others did the same. Funds from the annual event will go toward two projects, according to Anita Cabe, chairman of the committee. Those projects are a city sign, welcoming people to Gurdon, and also a school auditorium. Members of the 2004 auction committee, are: Kellie Clark, Michelle Babineuax, Mary Smith, Doris Wright, Julia Smithson, Linda Bittle, Rene Pace and Anderson. Sponsors this year included: Anthony-Higgs Lumber Company, Austin's Rentals, C. Louis and Mary Cabe Foundation, Cabe Land and Timber, Caffey's Fina Station, Johnny Caffey's Trucking, Elk Horn Bank and Trust Co., First State Bank, Griffin Logging, Gurdon Rotary, Dwight Malcom Logging, Tommy Roebuck, Shelter Insurance, Chad Kesterson, agent; Southwestern Bell, Sonic Drive-In, US Bank.
