No Joke 'Story' This Year In The PicayunePublished Wednesday, March 31, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThere will be no April fool's 'story' this year in the Nevada County Picayune, according to the publishers. In the past several years a joke story has been printed at this time, welcoming April 1. However, due to the severity of last year's joke, April Fool's Day will be ignored. Last year's 'story' centered around a great asteroid headed toward Earth, in fact directly toward Prescott. If it had hit there would have been a great lake formed. One company was already making plans to put a theme park near the lake. But a disaster greater than the joke hit. In other words the joke backfired. Several people had to be treated at the local hospital. One person died from the severity of the joke. She was on her way to Texarkana to the hospital when she passed acute hilariousism. Two persons remain in the hospital, suffering from slight hilariousism. While the story itself was unbelievable, it was close enough to the real fact to be scary. After all asteroids had been in the news regularly for the past several weeks, making it more believable. So, the joke's on us. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
