Military NewsPublished Wednesday, March 31, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneNavy Petty Officer 3rd Class David Robinson, a 1997 graduate of Prescott High School, recently graduated from the navy's Basic Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Charleston, S.C. During the six-month course, Robinson received fundamental training in several technical fields related to the nuclear power program. Robinson studied basic mathematics and physics for three months in preparation for hands-on training later in the course. In the latter half of the course, Robinson spent hours familiarizing himself with nuclear reactor theory and operations. With his newly acquired knowledge, Robinson is prepared to operate a reactor on a nuclear powered submarine, cruiser or aircraft carrier, ensuring the availability of propulsion and power. Robinson's work enables his fellow Sailors to safely and effectively operate the ship's combat and navigational systems. As a graduate of Basic Nuclear Power School, Robinson demonstrates his tremendous ability to excel in a naval force of more than 400,000 men and women. Whether assigned to ships, squadrons or shore commands around the world, men and women like Robinson are making a difference as they work to improve their knowledge and skill as part of the most highly technical naval force in history.
