Published Wednesday, March 31, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

Shannon Daugherty, a ninth grade student at Blevins High School, was recently notified that one of her poems was selected for publication by Creative Communication of Smithfield, Utah.

Her poem, Best Ever Friends, which she wrote to her best friend, Anna McAnally, when Anna moved away in 1997, will appear in the 1999 edition of A Celebration of the Heartland's Young Poets. Her poem is also in the final competition for $1,500 in prizes.

Daugherty is the daughter of Kim Daugherty of Prescott and Carl Daugherty of Dierks and the granddaughter of W.J. and Marty Stone of Prescott and Denver and Sue Daugherty of Hope.

She still finds time to write even with a full schedule of school work, basketball, cheerleading, track and FFA.
