Accident claims life of Gurdon manBY WENDY LEDBETTERPublished Wednesday, July 7, 2004 in the Gurdon Times A Gurdon man was killed in a one-car accident on Shiloh Road just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27. According to an accident report from the Clark County Sheriff's Office, Jeremy McKin, 27, 139 Warren Loop, was not breathing when emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash. McKin was taken to Baptist Medical Center-Arkadelphia where he was pronounced dead. The accident report was written by Sheriff's Deputy Travis J. Vance. Vance stated that McKin was driving a blue 1979 GMC pickup east on Shiloh Road when he apparently left the road onto the grassy shoulder. The truck went 120 feet on the shoulder before striking a culvert. He then apparently attempted to compensate but overcorrected and the truck slid sideways. The truck slid "at an angle of about 45 degrees across the roadway and into the opposing grassy shoulder where (the truck) struck a tree," according to Vance's report. The impact tore the driver's side fender from the truck, and damaged the grill and hood. The truck apparently "kept rotating, became slightly airborne and struck another tree with the passenger's side from wheel," according to the report. The truck traveled a total of just more than 283 feet from the time it first left the road, and "the tire marks in the grassy shoulder and on the roadway did not display signs of the brakes being applied." According to the report, an ice chest and beer cans were at the scene and had apparently come from McKin's vehicle. The report also indicates that a blood analysis for alcohol content was requested, but results from that test were not noted on the report. Clark County Sheriff Troy Tucker was not available for comment at press time. Services for McKin were slated for Friday at Third Street Baptist Church with burial at Shiloh Cemetery.
