Pvt. Van Ryan Marcum

Private Van Ryan Marcum, 21, of Prescott, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2004, killed in line of duty at U.S. Army Base in Fort Benning, Ga.

He was born on December 21, 1982, in Zachary, La., to Gary and Beverly Gay Campbell Marcum. He was an Infantryman Trainee in the U.S. Army. He had received the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and an Army Service Ribbon. He was a member of Garrett Memorial Baptist Church of Hope.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles T. Campbell and one uncle, Charles "Chuck" Campbell.

His survivors include: his father, Gary Marcum of Clermont, Fla.; his mother, Beverly Gay Campbell Marcum of Prescott; his paternal grandparents, Vance and Nell Marcum of Hot Springs; his maternal grandmother, Adell Campbell of Prescott; two aunts and uncles, Dolly Henley and Paul of Washington and Diane Sutherland and Eddie of Hot Springs Village; six cousins, Carrie Sutherland and Todd Sutherland both of Dallas, Texas; Holly Parker and Jason of Rudy; Baby Judson Parker of Rudy; Casey Lambert of Alma; and April Campbell of Fayetteville.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Rev. Kevin Smead officiating. Burial followed in Harmony Cemetery in Sutton. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

Family received friends Friday, June 25, 2004, from 4-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish.
