Levi Hitt

HARRISBURG  Levi L. Hitt, 92, of Harrisburg died June 18, 2004, in

Jonesboro.

He was born Dec. 26, 1911, in Morgan County, Ala., son of the

late James M. and Dora Yancey Hitt. He was the retired owner and operator of Hitt Furniture Co. in Jonesboro, a former car salesman, mechanic and farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he led singing and served as deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maurice Harriet Donel Hitt.

Survivors include: six sons, Bobby J. Hitt of Monroe, La., L. Howard Hitt of Harrisburg, C. Wayne Hitt of Kapolei, Hawaii, Tommy E. Hitt of Jonesboro, Maurice L. Hitt of Arkadelphia, and K. Barry Hitt of Cerritos, Calif.; one daughter, E. Janet Simpson of Harrisburg; one sister, Lena Petero of Jonesboro; and 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was June 25 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Brown and Rev. Harold Ray officiating. Burial was in Bolivar Cemetery in Harrisburg under the direction of Jackson's Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers were his children. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Erlan Teague, Robert Woodrum, Charley Reeves, J.F. Winningham, George Haner, Lowell Brooks, Charles Metzler Jr., James Baggett and Bill and JoAnn Cowgur.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
