Spring Break Closes Center This Week

Published Wednesday, March 31, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Nevada County Recycle and Work Center is closed this week for spring break. Its workers, mentally handicapped, often go home for the holidays to be with relatives.

There is no pickup this week due to the workers being gone.

A problem exists at the facility located on East Second South. Some people have been bringing garbage and broken glass items to the recycle pickup station. The center does not accept garbage or broken glass.

"We want to remind everyone that the bins at the center are meant for recyclable paper, cardboard boxes and aluminum cans only," a news release to the Picayune stated. "We ask you to please not leave your trash, food or any glass or sharp items in the recycle bins.

"There have been in the past items left in the bins that could present a danger to the workers," the release stated. "For the health and safety of our staff and employees, we urge you to limit your drop-off recyclables to paper, cardboard and aluminum cans."

The center will re-open next Monday.
