Incumbents in both Justice of the Peace districts 9 and 10 retained their claims to their seats.

Frances McGill held her seat for JP 10 by more than 100 votes, according to the Clark County Clerks Office. Unofficial results indicate that McGill got 199 votes while opponent Gaylen White received 98 votes.

The race for JP 9 was much closer. Unofficial results in that race indicate that Jim Hatley got 71 votes while opponent Vickie Smithpeters garnered 54.

Election results will not be official until verified by the state.

Hatley said he wanted to thank the voters of the county for renewing their faith in him.

Born in Burtsell, near Okolona in Clark County, Hatley said he has just been elected for this third term. His wife, Odessa, passed away three years ago. Hatley has four children.

Asked about the important topics facing the county in the future, Hatley said, I dont think Id want to talk about that at this time. He said there are two or three things that I dont approve of, but said theyd be subjects for the Clark County Quorum Court meetings.

McGill, contacted just before the runoff, said she believed the proposed landfill near Smithton community would continue to be a big issue for the coming year. Contacted after the election, she said she plans to continue to study the issues.

And I dont think District 10 can become an isolated district, she said. We have to realize were part of the whole.

Asked about the vote, McGill said she wanted to thank the voters for their confidence in her abilities.

But I was disappointed in the numbers, she said. I would like more people to become interested in county government, and to go vote.

The Clark County Quorum Court meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the Clark County Courthouse.
