Clifford White

Mr. Clifford Earl White, 78, of Spring Hill, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his home.

He was born August 4, 1925, in Prescott to Charles P. and Eva M. Ashcraft White.

He was a retired Chief Aviation Machinist's Mate from the Navy with 20 years service from 1942-1942, serving in WWII an the Korean Conflict; and retired from the Spring Hill School system. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church of Spring Hill.

He served on the USS Princeton and USS Yorktown with Task Force 77 in the Pacific. He had duty in Japan, Newfoundland, Iceland, Labrador, Sicily, Greenland, Malta, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, The Azores, Greece (Athens) and Brazil. In Greenland he had four flights over the North Pole at about 400 feet charting icebergs so the submarines would have a map for going under the ice pack. His final assignment was in Norfolk, Virginia, with the Naval Air Force Atlantic Fleet serving on the Admiral's Staff. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, China Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Victory Medal in World War II, American Theatre, Asiatic and Pacific Area.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Imogene Stroop White; two brothers and three sisters.

His survivors include: his wife, Fern Hatfield White of Spring Hill; two sons, Howard L. White of Mesquite, Texas, and Paul E. White of Hope; one daughter, Norma Jean Boyd of Norman; one brother, Charles White of Prescott; three sisters, Lola B. White of Springtown, Texas, Hazel Johnson of Prescott, and Laverne Whorley of Mineral Springs, three grandson, one granddaughter, three great-granddaughters, and two great-grandsons.

Funeral service were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Bethany Baptist Church, Spring Hill, with Rev. James Ross and Rev. Perry Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Holly Spring Cemetery, Spring Hill. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

Family received friends Monday, May 31, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at Brazze/Oakcrest.
